What Do I Get in the RocketPiano Course?
The Rocket Piano Training is available as either a Digital Download or a physical product that is mailed to you consisting of workbooks, DVDs, CDs, etc. I like most learn at home piano students I believe choose the download which means you can start your classes straight away , but is also way cheaper PC and Mac compatible, and I have no regrets on my choice.
You also get quite a few bonuses some of which I used some I didn’t which I’ll mention later.

The Rocket Piano Curriculum is taught as a multimedia course within 3 Lesson workbooks.
The lessons are designed to be fun and I didn’t find anything in it especially boring. The beginners workbook is 165 pages and is aimed at the complete novice pianist with little or no idea about the keyboard. It very quickly has your skills as a pianist up at a level where you can play proper tunes.
The Piano Teacher Ruth Searle, who is Kiwi Pianist (from New Zealand, not some strange musical bird 🙂 ) with extensive classical piano training, a composition award winner and very adept at numerous piano styles is remarkably easy to follow and learn from. And if you don’t get it first time you can always rewind the video lesson.
The other main teaching workbooks are an intermediate book of 65 pages, and an advanced book of 59 pages.
The workbooks are well designed, and have a quality professional feel to them. The are particularly well illustrated with notation and clear diagrams. The indicators of where an audio file or a video lesson are to be accessed is also well laid out and quite intuitive.
Beginners with a little knowledge may feel that they want to skip a bit of the beginners book, but I think that would be a mistake as whilst you may find it simple for the first 10 or so pages quickly recapping basic concepts may just iron out some bad habits before they get completely ingrained in your playing style. At least that’s what I felt.
What else is in the Rocket Piano Course?
The value for money with this course is very high for the relatively small cost, particularly if you choose the downloadable version.
In total the course can be looked on as a complete and extensive guide to learning to play piano at home. It is set up so that you can keep a track of your progress within the course itself, and there are short tests throughout the help you check your understanding of a section of teaching.
Apart from getting to play real tunes you will also learn the fundamentals of playing piano, such as correct finger positioning, chords, arpeggios and scales, proper musiacal notation and theory.
The bit I had particularly struggled with and which Rocketpiano helped me with was learning to play piano by ear and to sight read which it did well at.
You also get 2 genre specific workbooks, Jazz Piano and a Gospel/Spiritual/Hymn, both in the same general style of workbook, audio and video teaching.
In total there are, apparently,
– 57 video lessons dotted through the course with links in the workbooks. They are well filmed and the detail allows you to see enough detail to copy and master the technique. I don’t think they are HD but they looked pretty good to my eyes.
– 191 audio tracks again throughout the workbooks links show you the way so that you can hear just what the piece you are trying to play on the keyboard should really sound like. Very Useful.
– 17 Jam Tracks which come in two types, one with a piano to play along with, and one with just the band to play with as you improve. Good fun, but maybe not for everybody.
There is a Member’s Area which has new section in which Rocket Piano Student questions are answered by Ruth Searle with a video lesson. As I type this it was only a small section but it is bound to grow.
Lifelong Membership – this is nice to know that if Rocket Piano bring out any new course content in the future you can Have access to it as a download from the section in the member’s area.
Support is good. They have a very comprehensive FAQ section and in my experience responce to email questions was quick and thorough from the Rocket Piano Staff.
Bonuses with Rocket Piano
You do get quite a few bonuses some you may find more useful than others.
Advanced Piano Learning Techniques – probably the most useful. It gave some good advice on ways to “learn to Play Piano the Proper way” with memory and learning techniques designed to avoid falling into bad habits.
Jayde Musica Pro – a game to help you quickly memorize the notes on the piano keyboard and more importantly remember them 🙂 .
Chordinator – this is designed to accompany Jayde Musica Pro and get you reading chords from the music staff.
Perfect your Pitch Pro – software and a game to help you learn to develop an ear for music. May appeal to younger piano students, but that may be just me.
Songpond Membership -Free for a Month. It is an online music school that specifically aims to teach students to play their favorite tunes with video lessons either from a vast video library or you can request a lesson. This was good when my daughter was learning a piece for a school recital.
Is Rocket Piano a Scam?
I don’t think so. From my experience with them it is a well laid out course that is well taught and teachs good piano technique, and for the price I think what you get is extremely good value, at the moment I think it is only $39-95 for lifetime membership and support. They have a 60 Day Money Back Guarantee so I would say try it out for a couple of months and see how you get on with Ruth Searle’s teaching style I found it very easy to follow see if you agree and let me know.
